Pushing the Petal: J. Crew Plans to Open its New All Male Store

In September 2010, J. Crew will be opening its fourth all men’s store. By doing so, J. Crew will be growing its men’s business. As of now J. Crew has three all men’s store; one on West Broadway in Tribeca, one at the Garden State Plaza in New Jersey, and one in Soho.
Expansion
The fourth J. Crew will be a 3,400 square foot store at 1020 Madison Ave and 79th street. According to WWD, the retailer is aggressively searching locations for additional units outside of Manhattan. Chief Executive of J. Crew Group Inc. Millard Drexler states, “It’s definitely a business now. It’s beyond the test phase.” He says this because according to the company’s accountant, men’s overall account for around a quarter percentage of the company’s $1.4 billion volume.
The Plan
Drexler states that, “the plan is not to open hundreds of stores in every mall location,” in its place the company is taking a “less is more approach.” In searching for locations for the new stores, the company wants high populations of “urban, sophisticated, fashionable and higher-income men who love fashion and love to looks good,” Drexler says. To achieve the success in opening the newest all men’s J. Crew, the company will make sure each store has its own personality. They will apply the same inspirations they gave the women’s store, to this men’s store. With hard work in designing and making sure this downtown store doesn’t look like one, but make it fit into the ambiance of an Upper East Side neighborhood, the J. Crew Group Inc. has a lot a head of them in order to succeed.

Sneak Peek! The Entire, 20-Look Jean Paul Gaultier For Target Line

About five months ago, people everywhere were so excited about the announcement of Jean Paul Gaultier line for target. We think great designer and affordable prices would be fab right? Well some people do not think that this collection is too fabulous. Personally, this lookbook is not as cohesive as i would like to to have been. There are some cute separates though, esp the swimsuits. The prices range from $17.99 - $199.00. The leather Jackets are the most expensive. It debuts stores on March 7, 2010. Can't wait to see how well it does!

Rest In Peace Alexander Mcqueen

In sad news, one of the fashion world’s favorite and top designers Alexander McQueen committed suicide. It’s shocking news as Fashion Week kicks off today and McQueen is indeed a celebrity favorite and a fashion world favorite.

The fashion editor who discovered him, and who became his close friend, committed suicide as well back in 2007. And his mother just died a few days ago. Such sad news and for such a talented person who quickly became a British fashion icon and an American favorite as well.

According to reports:

McQueen was found at his luxury flat in Green Park, central London. It is believed he hanged himself.

A source at McQueen’s office this afternoon confirmed his death, saying: ‘It is a tragic loss. We are not making a comment at this time out of respect for the McQueen family.’

His death comes just days before the start of London Fashion Week and weeks before he was due to unveil his new collection at Paris Fashion Week on March 9.

Fashion For Haiti From Naomi!

The supermodel is planning a series of fashion shows to benefit the victims of the Haitian earthquake, including one during New York Fashion Week on Feb. 12. She has been rounding up looks from fashion designers to be worn by celebrities at the runway event and then auctioned to raise more funds. Asked which designers she had called, Ms. Campbell replied succinctly.

“All of them,” she said.

Ms. Campbell has been organizing such shows under the name Fashion for Relief since 2005, raising funds through auctions in response to tragedies like Hurricane Katrina and the Mumbai terrorist attacks, though it has been several years since she brought the show to New York.

In a subtle pitch, Ms. Campbell noted that it will be a rare chance for people to see the Bryant Park tents in person, since the shows that begin next week will be the last held there before Fashion Week moves to Lincoln Center in September.

“It’s not your typical runway show,” she said. “Having the public be in the audience is much more fun. They are the ones who are not usually allowed in the shows.”

When Ms. Campbell, who had already announced a similar event in London, proposed having another show in New York, the calendar was already full. But the designer Charlotte Ronson agreed to move her show to accommodate the event. IMG, which produces the shows in Bryant Park, agreed to help with models, and Ms. Campbell is calling on several celebrities to appear. She has also arranged for the clothes to be auctioned at Net-a-porter.com next month.

“It’s the world that I am in,” she said. “Fashion is what I know and what I have loved for 25 years. It’s great that you are seeing actors coming together and singers coming together, but this is our way of coming together and giving a contribution.”

Tickets for the show will go on sale first to American Express cardholders on Feb. 5, for $100 or $150, through Ticketmaster.com. The ticket sales alone are expected to raise $100,000 for the charities connected to Fashion for Relief, said Jessica Igoe, the director of global sponsorship marketing for American Express.
